3rd Sunday Jazz Concerts:
A Cultural Experience for Families
About 3rd Sunday Jazz Concerts
3rd Sunday Jazz Concerts is a free, all-ages live music experience for the whole family, created by Brandon Meeks and funded in part by the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation. Our purpose is to inspire the next generation of jazz supporters and artists in Indianapolis.
There is often a disconnect with young people and jazz music. For many youth growing up in Indianapolis jazz has nothing to do with everyday life and is only encountered in the school environment. While jazz education is important it can tend to present the music as a thing of the past. If jazz in Indianapolis is to continue growing it is critical for young people to regularly experience the music as a vibrant part of our culture beyond the classroom.
The 3rd Sunday Jazz series addresses this issue by reaching families. Parents are encouraged to bring their children and everyone is able to experience a fun, energetic and inspiring show from a mix of youthful and seasoned area musicians who are relatable, masters of their craft. By making this a free event, cost is not a barrier to those who wish to attend. As this series continues it will make a lasting impression that will ignite a lifelong passion for jazz in Indianapolis youth.
