How I Got to Play Ron Carter in Don Cheadle’s Film About Miles Davis

I was recently able to speak with Jill Ditmire of WFYI Indianapolis about my part in Don Cheadle’s film, Miles Ahead. We talked about how I got involved in the movie as legendary bassist Ron Carter and some of the differences between performing live versus creating a performance for the cameras.

I also was able to talk about my upcoming acoustic jazz project and present a new song entitled Illusion. Please listen to the interview below. You can also post questions about Miles Ahead in the comment section and I’ll be sure to answer them as best as I can. Thanks!

Native Sun Brings Live Hip Hop to Small Studio Sessions

I was recently invited with Native Sun to record a performance at WFYI Studios in Indianapolis for their new web video series, Small Studio Sessions. The series was inspired by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and features really great independent artists across all genres. So far Native Sun is the 3rd band to appear on the show and the first to present live hip hop.

We used this opportunity to debut 3 new songs. The first, Resurrection is a remake of the classic song by Common from his 1994 album of the same name. The second and third songs we performed are two new original pieces entitled Every Minute Every Hour and Lambs Bread which will be featured on upcoming projects by Native Sun and the band’s emcee, B Young.

Since these songs haven’t been heard by very many people yet I would love to know your thoughts on them. Please leave a comment if you dig them. Thanks!
